Irritrol RS1000 rain sensor
I'm confused where to locate the wires because I have 5 wires coming out of the rain sensor. Can someone let me know which wires and which terminals to connect to.I have the HD-12 Rainmachine. Below is a diagram of the rain sensor. Thanks.
In the Rain Sensor article, you can see how you can connect a powered rain sensor, like the Irritrol RS1000. The Red wires should be connected to the 24VAC connectors unit. The RainMachine Touch HD-12 has software control over the rain sensor. This means that you can use any of the Normally Closed or Normally Open modes and you can enable/disable it. For example, you can use the White and Brown wires and from the RainMachine interface go to Settings / Restrictions / Rain Sensor , enable it and select Normally Closed.
I managed to get the rain sensor hooked up yesterday. It has been raining all night and I was expecting a notification that the rain sensor was activated but did not get one. I went to settings, restrictions and it shows no recent events under rain sensor. How does this actually work. The sprinkler was not scheduled to run this morning but it is tomorrow morning. Will i get a notification tomorrow if it tries to run. I doubt it will run anyway based on the rainy weather we are having. Just trying to understand it.
Make sure you have the latest update (4.0.900) only in this update we added support for rain sensor on HD12/16.
If you connected it like in the picture below (with the normally closed wire) and enabled it under Restrictions > Rain Sensor the software will be able to use it.
To test that rain sensor really works, open the Web Interface (either locally by going to your RainMachine IP or by https://my.rainmachine.com), look for Watering Restrictions box on Home (see screenshot below) and press the test spindle on the rain sensor. After a few seconds it should say Rain Detected.
Hi! My RainMachine recognizes the rain sensor (no problem) -- but when the sprinkler is running, and I trigger the rain sensor, the sprinkler system does not shut-off automatically. The system keeps watering (normal cycles). Is that the way is supposed to work? Please confirm. I was under the impression that when the sensor was triggered, all watering would stop (the software would stop it if the system was running) and then the RainMachine would pause according to the restriction I program. Thank you! Jorge
Jorge - did you ever get an answer about the system being able to stop mid-program if it suddenly starts raining? I hope it's able to do this with the rain sensor hooked up to the special terminals for "software detection"...otherwise, we'd have to hook the sensor up with the other method to the COMMON wire, which would definately be able to stop the watering mid-program as the power would be cut off to the zones (although I imagine the RainMachine would continue running the programs since it wouldn't have a clue the sensor cut off the common)
The system will shutdown all watering activities when Rain Sensor is triggered.
I believe in Jorge case something is not configured correctly. The status can be checked on Web Interface for example on Home page. If the rain sensor is enabled and rain is detected it should show this: Rain Sensor: Active.
I recommend Web Interface since it has a faster refresh timer for rain sensor status.
