Connecting water flow meter using 12Vdc

I am using a water flow meter and have it connected to another computer and want to also connect it to my RainMachine HD units as well.  I am using 12Vdc through the flow meter switch.  What needs to be done to connect the flow meter to an HD unit using this same 12Vdc line from the water meter? 

I just discovered the multipin connector just above the terminal strip. Is this where the connection is for the flow meter.  There are six pins on the connector.  What are they all for?

Would an optical coupler work between the flow meter and the HD unit?

  Do not user powered wire to connect to the RainMachine terminals.
