How do I use multiple RainMachines to cover more than 16 zones?
The RainMachine App can control multiple RainMachines from the device list. For example, to cover 24 zones, you can purchase 2 HD-12 units, which together control 24 zones. Using the app, you can switch between RainMachine 1 and RainMachine 2 (names can be anything you choose) to control each unit.
When running more than one RainMachine, be aware of the scheduling. Although both devices are on your device list, they are unaware of each other's schedules. Make sure that they have enough time to run without overlapping each-other. This is to avoid low water pressure in your system by running multiple zones simultaneously.
Master Valve and Multiple Units
Note: If you have a master valve, take into account it will use up the first zone, essentially subtracting 1 from the valve count (a 12 zone unit with a Master Valve plugged in will only have 11 available zones).
Steps to connect your RainMachines:
IMPORTANT: Look at the wires coming from the transformer and notice one is solid black while the other has a grey dashed line. Plug in each RainMachine exactly the same way, with both the grey wires in the right terminal and the black wires in the left terminal. Now, to start:
- First, connect the master valve to zone 1 and common on one of the RainMachines (doesn't matter which).
- Enable master valve on both units by selecting the wrench icon, then zones, then zone 1 and enable master valve.
- Now, connect a jumper wire from the common of the first RainMachine to the common on the second
RainMachine.
- Finally, connect a second jumper wire from zone 1 of the first RainMachine to zone 1 of the second RainMachine.
The result is C on one being connected to the C of the other, and likewise for Zone 1.
