    Hi Emil,

Can you give us more details,? When you power it up, do you see anything on the screen? Does a loading screen show up? Is any led turned on in this time?

When you have purchased the device?

    Regards,

Well, while you are waiting on Emil's reply, I will join in and say that I am having a problem after the update as well.  Since the most recent update, I am no longer able to detect my device from the rainmachine app on my android phone.

I, too, have an HD-12.   The app shows a demo unit to connect to but not the HD-12 device that I have installed on the same network.  It used to show up, but now it doesn't after the firmware update.

The HD-12 seems to be working fine and I am able to connect via windows based laptop using the website.

Is there a problem with the android app after the update?  I've noticed a few similar complaints in the Play Store review section.

I did the software update as well, but from the device itself and not through the web app and now it won't restart.  It just goes to the startup screen showing the watering can and never actually boots.  I have tried unplugging it and holding the reset button for > 10 seconds but still nothing.  It looks like the software update may have bricked it.  Is there a way to recover from this?

    @Jon Price

I am in the exact same situation as you. I went to the HD-12 to perform the update, which seemed to go perfectly. The unit rebooted and after reboot, all I got was the watering can and then nothing. The screen is on (easy to see in the dark), but nothing is displayed and it doesn't respond. Unplugged for 10 seconds...hit the reset...nothing seems to help.

@support: I have the same question as Jon; is my unit bricked? What can I do now? And I assume my programs and setup are all gone.

For HD-12 2nd Gen if the unit is stuck in the screen that shows "Loading RainMachine Data" waiting ~40 seconds, then pressing Wrench (Settings) button and performing a reset to defaults should solve this issue.

If the unit is HD-12 1st Gen and the screen is only showing just the loading watering can you should contact support which will issue a replacement.

Mine is certainly a 1st gen unit. The watering can just disappears.

So far, your tech support has tried to have me send my unit back for replacement 3 times. And so far, I have only sent it back once. But primarily because of my persistence. There are other ways to fix this...like providing a new SD card.

The idea of unwiring, uninstalling and shipping back my unit is irritating. I have a backup image of the SD card prior to the update. I will first just restore my SD card backup image. This isn't good...doing my own tech support.

    Hi Steve,

We're sorry for the inconvenience, we're doing our best to assure post warranty quality service to our customers.

I'm not sure if our technicians only replace the microSD card and ship back the device to you or there is a complete replacement or other replacement going on. I'll get back to you.

    Hi Steve,

I've asked and we can ship you a new microSD card. But as you probably noticed NOAA is misbehaving again on 1st Gen so we're going to make another update that will fix this new issue and also provide fail back URLs in case this happens again.

Ack. Thanks. Will the SD card include the newer update? I am in the northeast and the ground is currently frozen, so I'd rather wait to get it right.

    Hello Nicholas,

I'm in the same situation as Steve. My 1st gen unit stopped working after I did a update from the device in February. It only shows a watering can when I was trying to boot it up. What's the process to get it fixed?

I have a 1st Gen and have the watering can icon stuck on screen. The solution is to replace the SD Card and one is being shipped to me (thanks). However, I also found that by copying the 1.77GB partition on the original SD Card and flashing it on an old 8GB card (this may be relevant as new cards may not be compatible depending on the standard they adhere to) I had, the 1st Gen Rainmachine is booting again! Regardless I will use the card being sent to me but this tip may help others so sorry for reviving a 2017 thread... figured this tip may still help some.

Can someone post an image of the SD card somewhere? it will help the rest of us restore functionality of the Gen1. I got the watering can icon too, but I can't find the firmware image anywhere on their website. I already tried cloning the original SD card on a different card but it does the same thing. A copy of a corrupt file will be a bad file. It does the same thing.

@Adytexas feel free to email me. I made some image backups, but I didn't label them properly to know which is V1.

I had the watering can issue happen to me again just a couple weeks ago. Luckily I had kept an image of the SD card that was sent to me so I was able to restore it. Now I have a bit more time to build my own sprinkler controller based on ESP32 and controlled by Home Assistant... unless Rainmachine beats me to it releasing a refreshed Rainmachine Touch.
