WiFi Solar Moisture sensors in the yard

These stake like sensors could be pressed into the yard below mower level and let the RainMachine know when to water based on moisture levels. These sensors staked in your grass or around certain trees, etc...  WiFi Radio is solar powered. Whole new design I know, but seems like the next evolution of the technology.

  I found this online: https://edyn.com. It seems to be what is being described above but I'm not sure they support any open API that would allow easy integration.
