Local Network Access Broken
I know there is a million posts on here about this ... mine just stopped working, and I have no idea why. I use a Unifi Ubiquiti WIFI setup .. could be due to having multiple repeaters in my network (which the RainMachine people claim is a known issue). With that said, I've worked through the myriad port forwarding / direct access options, to no avail. I'm moving on to Rachio. I've posted my review to Amazon at 1-star, as that's the lowest I can go.

My Android app was connecting poorly, but Rain Machine (Pro) reboots, app restarts (Force Stop), etc helped; annoying but got me there.
Now. No connectivity. The blue running line with white dots makes me sad. Nothing helps.
I see I am not alone - not even a courtesy reply is forthcoming.
The website is still advertising "no cloud needed" - but it is a lie.
I might pay for an app upgrade, if it would help fund a software engineer, but given this track record. No. You have to be kidding me.
I can only assume the company is going out of business and I will need a new solution soon.

My Android-client app connection, and my Chrome-browser have good days and bad days - a RM reboot can often help.
To further troubleshoot I converted the open-source Python client to Python 3 on a Mac.Results are about the same - but now I see timeout errors or "peer connection" (RM connection dropped) errors when the connections fail.I couldn't find any helpful sys info, or other magical APIs commands, but it was a fun exercise. So, the issue does seem to be on the RM side. Not surprising.I suspect the https listener code or the backend service dies from time to time and some sort of watchdog either eventually notices or periodically just resets things.Unfortunately the server code is woefully out of date by now - Linux kernel, libraries, etc. must be ancient by modern standards. For example, it took some sleuthing to work around the barely supported self-signed certificate and the outdated SSLv3 issues on the RM box. It's a shame that something went south on the business side.I suspect (i.e. no data) that the vision required more details: more nano-climate info on the homeowner's side, and more localized weather info for better tuning. When I see my RM's recommendations - they are often way off, but it is too tedious to enter all the local info, and I am not convinced it would really help. Also, the only free & public weather info seems too granular where we live; not enough weather stations. The vision was "standalone", but the concept doesn't work in isolation. Servers in the cloud cost money to operate and perhaps the move toward recurring revenue to cover those expenses was too late or doomed from the beginning since it contradicted the purchase premise. And here we are.FWIW - it was a good little product: the HW is nifty, and the SW I saw was well written and complete, but sooner or later something else somewhere else will update and render it less useful. I remain impressed by the consumer electronics side and wish they could reboot. Unlikely w/o a few million dollars. Fortunately, my RM has enough UI on the little screen for me to keep running until I have to find a replacement. -
Just put in a Rachio 3 this weekend in Dallas. Now I am wondering why I even waited so long, and running back and forth to water different zones and so on. Never looking back. This thing is awesome, works from everywhere, home and away! Now I am done worrying with this nonsense. But I did love my RM for all those many years. Good luck to you all.

The Rachio 3 does have manual controls on the unit itself. Just no screen. Here is a short youtube on how it works. Very simple actually. Enjoy!

Well, I looked a few videos on YouTub and the Rachio Gen 3 doesn't quite work the same way. Yes, you can start a zone manually, but not immediately, you have to cycle thru them until you get to the zone you want. Then I'm not sure how long it runs, I guess whatever it was previously schedule for, there isn't any way to set that on the unit.
I don't always have my phone when I'm in my backyard watering different garden areas (by hand, I prefer that when I'm home and have time, doesn't take long). But there is one area that the water only flows if an unused valve is turned on. That gets the master valve ON and the water flowing to the garden area I want where I have a hose connected with a manual shutoff valve. So to water that area I usually just walk to the controller, active an unused zone for about 10 minutes and I'm good to go. With the Rachio this would be a bit more difficult, and I if I so wanted I couldn't setup multiple zones to water at the same time (the RainMachine will pend each zone after the first).
So this is all good with the RM. But with the state of the company in the sad state it is who knows how much longer this will work. Very disappointing but I'll probably keep using the RM until it breaks. -
I begrudgingly bought a Rachio 3 as well. I wanted local control, and while Rachio has very limited local controls, its app is pretty decent. The company seems to still be in business (for now), which is important. I don’t expect many new features in the horizon given how they’ve sold to the early adopters and are dropping their prices to drive revenue. They may also suffer the fate of RainMachine. What we really need is local control with integration with Matter. This way the controller will still work if manufacturer goes out of business.

Hello,
Without Premium you can only access your controller when you're on the same network.
Once you're on the same network as your RainMachine controller, please follow the instructions below.RainMachine HD
On your RainMachine HD, tap on the screen and then go to:
Wrench > System > Wi-Fi
Right above the name of your Wi-Fi network you will see something similar to this
Wi-Fi Settings : 10.0.0.18
When you enter those numbers (IP address) on your browser's search bar it will take you to the WebUI locally.RainMachine Pro
On your RainMachine Pro, tap on the screen and then go to:
Settings >About >Network Info
You should see something similar to this
Wi-Fi: 10.0.0.18
Or
LAN: 10.0.0.18
Depending on whether you're connected to Wi-Fi or wired to the router. If you enter those numbers (IP address) on your browser's search bar it will take you to the WebUI locally.
