Advanced zones programming ideas
Gathering FeedbackDefine adjacent zones
The ability to set the slope of the zone is great as is to define your own order easily. My old system did 1-7 and true, I could be fancy in programming and set multiple programs to mix the order but not easily. Why is this important - for me zone 4 is at the top of the slope, 3 next and 2 below that and that is the order I have. If you could define that zone 4 is sloped and has nothing above then it won't get any drain down or run off from above. Yet 3 will have both - some drain down and run off, 2 however get drain down and no run off because it is actually pretty flat. To me having this ability would result in 4 to water more than 3 and 3 more than 2.
Define sun exposure
Partial/full sun/shade definition would be enhanced by allowing an entry of x hours of full sun per day instead of a broad definition. I have zones that are full on sun for only a short period of the day but that also in the afternoon at the hottest time and so would need more watering than perhaps a zone in full sun for a longer period before midday. I think this would provide a better calculation of the sun impact and linkage to the temperature and wind.
Allow definition of zone orientation and exposure
This would permit better use of wind and seasonal affects and how this impacts evaporation and watering affect. For example my front 3 zones are pretty open facing west so run north/south and we have a lot of prevailing northerly winds that blow along these zones. The next 2 run more east/west for that lawn on the north side of the house, sheltered by the house and a row of trees so the northerly wind has little impact as well as minimal sun exposure being north side, especially for the last couple of months of watering in Sep/Oct. When we do have a westerly, these are impacted more than a northerly does but not to the same level.
