Mini 8 will not maintain connection with new router

I just upgraded from a 9 year old Asus RT-N66U to an Asus BlueCave AC2600 and while I was able to get all of my other peripherals to connect, my Mini-8 simply will not maintain it's connection. 

Nothing has changed with this new device other than much improved range, speed and security.  I've crossed referenced all my settings to ensure continuity.  While both routers support AiMesh I have no need to engage that feature.  I'm running the exact same network level VPN profile as I was through the previous device. 

Any one else?

  Can you create a separate 2.4ghz Wi-Fi network and use it to connect the Mini-8 to it?

  Yes, thank you. I used my old router as a repeater for the RainMachine device and have maintained a connection ever since.
