HD-12 touch pro
I'm excited that i may be able to upgrade my Touch HD-12 to utilize a water
flow meter and get leak detection. I'd like to offer my 3 cents worth with
my Expectation of what a rain nachine can do with a water flow meter.
1) leak detection.
Alert for any water consumed while not watering
2) actual water consumed with historical data. Could optionally input cost
of water for an expected water bill and with potential cost savings.
3)abnormal water usage, such as ablown/damaged heads or line breaks.
Calculate total water used from heads in set up and also compare to
historical data. If the delta from the actual and historical is
significantly different then alert user to check heads or search for line
breakage. I had a blown head and the grandpa next door to me said i had a
fountain which was a blown head. Rain machine should be able to tell that a
zone was off due to a blown head or even a broken line. I also had a broken
line and my lawn was swampy with bubbling water. Again, rain machine should
know a zone is off and to check heads and overly wet areas or bubbling
water in the lawn.
Maybe have a calibration in settings when to set after the system is checked
either by a professional or by a user. Calibration would simply turn on
zones automatically to calibrate for actual water usage by zone and total
usage and This could be in the initial setup and could also be recalibrated
if there was an issue that has been corrected. Rain machine would know what
to expect by zone and total system.
I've personally had a major main leak going to the manifold, a line to a
head break, a blown head.
In summary rain machine should be able to track actual water usage and
possibly costs and alert the user of potential leaks, line breaks blown
heads, etc.. I hope this this all makes sense. if not, but I'm assuming the rain pro code will be used as a baseand make it better for the HD-12 touch pro Cadillac product.
After the HD-12 is upgraded with all the
trimmings in a major Software Update , I'll expect to see a HD-12 touch pro
in the works for a best seller in Amazon and blow the doors off off rachio.
With the upgrade. Can we expect the rain sensor will still usable. It would
be nice, but the water flow meter is more important to me imho. If i could
upgrade to a HD-12 touch pro for a reasonable price I'd be a very happy
rain machine user assuming i can get green grass without breaking the bank.
I also need to get my leaks in order. I've fixed my major main leak and
recently identified a sticky valve leak that needs fixing, so I'm getting
there and would feel more comfortable knowing a device was watching my back for water leaks, etc.
Thoughts.

Hi Randy,
Thank you for your input, we are planing to add Flow Meter support to HD-12/16 and we're also going over your proposals to see which ones can be implemented.
Our recently released Pro-16 controller does have Flow Meter support and Leak detection support but we will be improving HD-12/16 too.
