Devices not showing both of my RMs?
The url https://my.rainmachine.com/devices is not showing both of my RMs. I have a 12HD and 16HD. Only the 16HD shows up. I can see the 12HD if I use it's IP address. I used to see both of them on the devices page but not any more. I haven't changed anything. Why has this changed?

Right now they say "Connected" but that's probably because I tried to re-set the Remote Access. On the 16HD it worked but it was already connected anyway. Initiating the Remote Access on the 12HD looked normal on the unit as it reported that it sent the email but I didn't get the email so I cycled the power on it and then it sent the email. Would a temporary loss of power or wifi connection cause this sort of problem? It would be nice if I could make an ethernet connection to the RMs. My router is about 5 feet away from the RM units. Will the RMs work with a USB ethernet adapter?

Hi Greg,
Yes, the RainMachine HD units have an extra USB port that can be used for that purpose. This article from our website has a list of compatible USB to Ethernet adapters.https://support.rainmachine.

Is the reliability of an HD unit improved with an ethernet adapter? In reading the post you refer to, it seems that the Pro Units have superior reliability using it's built in ethernet connection. Why is that and why is it not possible to achieve the same reliability with the HD units.

Hello Greg,
Well, with wired connections there's no external noise affecting the signal. Our units show you dBs next to WiFi signal, so that you can see if there's too much noise between your router and your RainMachine device. You also have to take into consideration how many devices are connected to your router. Nowadays, on most households, there's smart speakers, cell phones, gaming consoles, laptops, desktops, tablets, TVs, etc. All these devices consume data and slow down your overall data speed, while also creating extra noise. All these things affect how reliable your WiFi is and still affects how fast your wired connection may be.

In my case the router is located 5 feet from the RM units. The signal level is -18dbm which is about 16 micro watts. This is plenty of signal and a very high SNR. I do have a lot of devices (over 40) connected to my wifi router as well as a lot of ethernet devices (over 30). Most of these devices are idle at any one time. What I have seen with the two HD units is an occasional (it has happened twice now) unexplained loss of remote access which never reconnects unless I reboot the units. I found no other devices having problems when this has happened. A heavily loaded network shouldn't cause this type of failure. All it should do is slow things down. A Internet speed test through my ethernet network shows about 110MBps and 40MBps through my wifi.
My first thought was that maybe it has something to do with the RM firmware regarding wifi connectivity which is why I am exploring an ethernet connection. However, the thread that Nicholas referred to in his post above indicates that the HD units with a usb ethernet adapter don't work as well as the the ethernet connected Pro units. Perhaps this is a clue to what is causing the problem I am seeing. Could the problem that the HD units have with a usb ethernet adapter be related to my loss of remote access using wifi. I am curious about what is different between the Pro and HD units. What processor and OS is used in the Pro units?
