    Hi.
As we understand, the RainMachine reboots itself when you tap on its name on the DEVICES screen. We are sorry about that. We tried to replicate your issue and we couldn't catch it.

On the RainMachine screen, would you please try:
    - tap on Settings icon
    - then tap on Advanced
    - then tap on Factory Reset
    - wait for the reset process to finish and when it has, the "Welcome" screen will show up.

Let's get through the setup process again:
When the RainMachine Pro-16 show the "Welcome" screen, open the RainMachine iOS app on your iPhone (please make sure you have the latest update version installed from the Apple AppStore) and soon the RainMachine Pro-16 will be listed on the DEVICES screen with the "setup" label next to it.
Note: No need to manually connect to RainMachine Pro-16 Setup Network by going to iPhone/iPad iOS - Settings - Wi-Fi

The iPhone/iPad it is not currently connected to the Pro-16 Setup Network yet.

Tap on the RainMachine Pro-16 name from the DEVICES screen and you will be asked how do you want to proceed with the setup process:
    - using Apple Home app and then setup
    or
    - Setup and add to Home app later

If you choose the second path the setup process will begin by connecting the iPhone/iPad to the RainMachine Pro-16 Setup Network. This will be done in background.
Once the iPhone/iPad is connected to the RainMachine setup network, the Wi-Fi network list will show up on the screen.
Look for your local Wi-Fi network name and select it. Tap its password if any and soon after that, the RainMachine Pro-16 will initiate the connection process to that Wi-Fi network and then automatically the iPhone/iPad will disconnect from RainMachine Pro-16 Setup Network and will connect to the local Wi-Fi network you just select.
It is very important for both RainMachine device and iPhone/iPad to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

After that the other setup steps will follow.

It would help if you follow again the exact steps as described above and let us know how it goes.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

I factory reset, I didn't connect my phones Wi-Fi to anything and the Pro-16 still reboots as soon as I click on the controller in the DEVICES screen with the "setup" label next to it.  I also tried with a tablet instead of my phone and the same thing happens.  I've tried this with two different Pro-16's with the same result.

    Ok.
Do you have an Ethernet cable available from your router(s) to the RainMachine Pro-16 device?
Connecting it to the local network with the Ethernet cable will by-pass the Wi-Fi settings.
Also, please make sure that your Wi-Fi router has the latest firmware update installed.

Another workaround is to use a mobile Wi-Fi Hotspot and try to connect/setup the RainMachine Pro-16 over wi-fi.

Would you please let us know the Wi-Fi router models that you have tried?

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

You can also try (you said you didn't do it before) to connect your iPhone/iPad to the RainMachine Pro-16 Setup Network (when the "Welcome" screen is listed, the setup network is available).
Open iPhone/iPad iOS Settings - Wi-Fi - look for the RainMachine-XXXXXX setup network on the network list and tap on it to connect (no password needed).
Once connected open RainMachine app and tap on the device name - tell is if that works.

    Thank you,
    Julian

I took both controllers to work and they could successfully find networks.  I brought them home and they were back to rebooting. I tried again at work and again they worked fine.  I will turn off different wireless devices at home to try and find out what is causing the Pro-16 to reboot when looking for wireless access points.

    That is good to know.
Please send us the version of your home Wi-Fi router so we can investigate this issue on our side, if we can.

    Keep us posted!
Thank you for your patience and understanding.

    I figured it out.

I have two wireless networks that have an Em Dash in the SSID.  Once I temporarily disabled those networks, the Pro-16 didn't reboot and displayed all the surrounding networks.

    I guess I need to switch to a - instead of a — in my SSID's

So, the dash chars inside the SSID naming causes the Pro device not to display the Wi-Fi network list on the setup steps.
Maybe they were typed using special characters keyboard?

Thank you for letting us know.
And thank you for discovering that issue.

I have this same issue. It's really annoying because the "bad" SSID is actually my neighbors and not mine. Any special characters in the SSID seems to cause the rain machine pro to crash. I had to install the rain machine in a completely different area of my home where it can't pick up any other outside SSIDs.
