Outdoor mounting?

I live in Los Angeles and just ordered the HD-12.  Will outdoor mounting damage the unit? If I mount outdoors, should I use the Orbit box? The high temperatures in the summer are usually in the 80's though we get multiple day heat waves sometimes in the 90s and maybe a couple days a year 100+ degrees.  Winter lows are rarely below mid 40's.  Rain is practically non-existent these days but we do get occasional downpours in a good year.  Thanks.

    Our RainMachine devices, especially the RainMachine Touch HD-12/16 are made for indoor use.
    We do recommend using the Orbit box but make sure that the box is not placed in direct sunlight. Also, the high temperatures (heat waves) could damage the LCD screen of the RainMachine even if is placed into a box.
