Direct Access not working with VPN or non-ip URL
I'm unable to use the RainMachine App on my iphone when I'm not at my physical location.
I have my local and remote routers setup with VPN AND I have no trouble connecting to the rainmachine using a browser. I can see the device names under Direct Access but when I click on them the cursor just spins and spins. Does this feature not work within the IOS app?

Well this was of no help at all. I see everybody is having an issue with this.
In my case, I had not problem using the ios app while at home on my network or while away using your cloud. I never had used the Direct Access until you added the paid service. I figured I would be able still use the app IF I use my VPN or if I use my DNS. Neither work as indicated by many other users. I'm OK with using the web ui for now but it's SLOW and not as nice as the app as you probably know.

This company is a total joke. They remove the most important feature and then tell you to just read this and that as if everyone has the time to figure out what they are suppose to fix. if all consumer products worked like this, consumers would never buy such a product. I have a feeling this is a Chinese company folding. Do not give them your info. or pay the annual fee. Orbit has a wifi controller of $115 on Amazon and I seriously doubt Orbit will go away anytime soon. This was your unethical bait and switch, should have stuck with my Toro.

I have 2 asus routers. One router has the VPN server side enabled while the router at the other location is connected to it using the VPN client side. I have no trouble pinging devices through the vpn. I can even connect to the rainmachine using the local IP address if I use a browser. Just can't connect to it using the app anymore unless I am physically there.

I hope you are using the manually configured direct access, and not the local discovery (the latter does not usually work over VPN). I would try adding the RM again in direct access, specifing the IP address as https://XX.XX.XX.XX:8080. This worked for me. https was very important.
