Security is of paramount importance when it comes to your RainMachine irrigation system. Resetting or changing passwords periodically helps maintain the integrity and protection of your device. In this article, we will explore how to reset and change password on RainMachine devices – Mini-8, Pro-8/16, and Touch HD-12/16 – emphasizing the local access methods from the touch interface, RainMachine mobile apps (iOS or Android), and RainMachine Web app.
I. Resetting and Changing Password on RainMachine Mini-8:
1. Local Touch Interface
To reset the Mini-8 Password press and hold the RESET button (located under the white front panel next to the power terminals) for 5+ seconds. When you release the RESET button you must hear a loud beep sound. The RainMachine Mini-8 system will automatically reboot. The reboot process can take up to 2 minutes.
Important: After reboot, the RainMachine Mini-8 should display the letter "A".
Note: Resetting the RainMachine Mini-8 device will erase only Wi-Fi settings and the Password (leaving it blank). Other data, like location, program schedule & properties, zones properties, restrictions will not be affected.
To continue, on your phone/tablet and go to Settings - Wi-Fi and look for the RainMachine Mini-8 Access Point setup Wi-Fi network (something like RainMachine-XXXXXX). Tap on it to connect your phone/tablet to the Mini-8 Access Point setup Wi-Fi network.
2. RainMachine Mobile App (Local Network Access)
a. Open the RainMachine mobile app on your device listed with the "setup" label.
b. Continue the setup process by adding a new password.
Note: The "Old Password" is blanked since the Mini-8 device was reset using 5+ hold on RESET button, just leave the "Old Password" input field empty.
Important: If you did not reset the password and you only want to change it, then you need to know the Old Password and enter it. After that enter the New Password twice and save it.
c. After the password was saved, continue and add the Mini-8 device to your local Wi-Fi network.
3. RainMachine Web App (Local Network Access)
a. Ensure your computer or mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the Mini-8.
b. Open a web browser and visit the RainMachine Web app and type the Mini-8 Local IP address.
c. Log in to your RainMachine account if required.
d. Navigate to the "Settings" section within the web app.
f. Look for the "System Settings" option and choose "Admin Password"
g. Follow the instructions provided to reset or change the password.
Note: The "Old Password" is blanked since the Mini-8 device was reset using 5+ hold on RESET button, just leave the "Old Password" input field empty.
Important: If you did not reset the password and you only want to change it, then you need to know the Old Password and enter it. After that enter the New Password.
h. Save the changes and confirm the new password.
II. Resetting and Changing Password on RainMachine Pro-8/16
1. Local Touch Interface:
a. Physically access the RainMachine Pro-8/16 device.
b. On the Pro-8/16, navigate to the touch interface and select "Settings."
c. Choose the "Advanced" option and locate the "Reset Password" button and tap on it.
d. Your Pro-8/16 password will be reset (left blank).
e. To create a new password you'll need to open the RainMachine mobile app.
2. RainMachine Mobile App (Local Network Access):
a. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network as the Pro-8/16.
b. Open the RainMachine mobile app on your device.
c. Tap on the Pro-8/16 device from the device list to access its settings and log in if prompted. Leave the password filed empty if you reset the password or enter the Old Password if you want to change it to a new one.
d. Navigate to the "Settings" or "System Settings" section within the app.
e. Locate the "Password".
f. Follow the prompts to reset or change the password.
Important: Leave the "Old Password" input field empty since the password was reset using the Pro-8/16 local touch interface. If you did not reset the password and you only want to change it, then you need to know the "Old Password" and enter it.
g. Create a "New Password" adhering to the specified criteria and enter it twice.
h. Save the changes and confirm the new password.
3. RainMachine Web App (Local Access):
a. Ensure your computer or mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the RainMachine Pro.
b. Open a web browser and visit the RainMachine Web app app and type the Pro-8/16 Local IP address.
c. Log in to your RainMachine account if necessary, but do not enter any password when asked since it is reset it to a blank password.
d. Select the RainMachine Pro device from the device list to access its settings.

d. Navigate to the "Settings" section within the web app.
f. Look for the "System Settings" option and choose "Admin Password"
h. Follow the prompts to reset or change the password.
Important: Leave the "Old Password" input field empty since the password was reset using the Pro-8/16 local touch interface. If you did not reset the password and you only want to change it, then you need to know the "Old Password" and enter it.
g. Create a "New Password" adhering to the specified criteria and enter it once.
h. Save the changes and confirm the new password.
III. Resetting and Changing Password on RainMachine Touch HD-12/16
1. Local Touch Interface:
a. Physically access the RainMachine Touch HD-12/16 device.
b. On the Touch HD-12/16, navigate to the touch interface and select "Settings" (the wrench button).
c. Choose the "System" option and locate the "Remote Access/Password" card and tap on it.
d. Tap on the "Password" input field at the bottom of the screen.
e. Create a new password using the on-screen keyboard.
f. Save the changes and confirm the new password.
2. RainMachine Mobile App (Local Network Access)
a. Connect your mobile device to the same Wi-Fi network as the HD-12/16.
b. Open the RainMachine mobile app on your device and log in if prompted.
c. Tap on the HD-12/16 device from the device list to access its settings.
d. Navigate to the "Settings" or "System Settings" section within the app.
e. Locate the "Password".
f. Follow the prompts to reset or change the password.
g. Create a new password adhering to the specified criteria.
h. Save the changes and confirm the new password.
3. RainMachine Web App (Local Network Access)
a. Ensure your computer or mobile device is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as the RainMachine Touch HD-12/16.
b. Open a web browser and visit the RainMachine Web app.
c. Log in to your RainMachine account if necessary.
d. Select the RainMachine Touch HD-12/16 device from the device list to access its settings.
e. Navigate to the "Settings" or "Device Settings" section within the web app.
f. Look for the "Security" option and choose "Change Password" or "Reset Password."
g. Follow the instructions provided to reset or change the password.
h. Create a new password that meets the specified criteria.
i. Save the changes and confirm the new password.
It's important to note that changing the password on RainMachine devices (Mini-8, Pro, and Touch HD-12/16) requires local access to the device itself for security reasons. However, if you need to change the password remotely having a Premium Services subscription, when you are not on the same location as the device, ensure that the RainMachine device is connected to the Wi-Fi network and has internet connectivity. This will allow you to access the RainMachine mobile (iOS or Android) apps or the RainMachine Web app remotely and change the password using the steps outlined above.
