    Despite the justified criticism of RainMachine for taking a long time to add levels of remote access, we should cut them some slack about access at the device itself. It is dead simple — just press the screen icon for zones , pick one, and choose a duration... that’s it. It would be nice if those by-zone photos we can attach via the web app were available on the device display, but it’s easy to print the list.

    It takes a few weeks to write the code to make these requested changes and then another few weeks to Beta test .....two years in "Alpha" is completely unacceptable. I agree with previous suggestion, the developers either don't care or don't know how. I regularly use software for hardware control functionality its not rocket science, we request changes, submit them to the developer and within weeks we have a patch.

    What's been missing for much too long is feedback from the developers on progress, or a release plan.  I agree with Sgt1411 (but with the testing and release schedule being a bit longer).  We obviously like and believe in the project itself.  A 2 year alpha (to me) indicates that they're lacking development resources... #openSource

    My sprinkler guy doesn't even need access the controller itself.  He can just go to the valve and operate it manually.  Alternatively, they could also use the 24VAC going into the Rain Machine and wire it directly to the zone in question which will operate it.

    Rain Machine is not the only smart irrigation controller that doesn't have contractor access.

    Before an official announcement, I'd like to let everybody in this thread know that the Shared Access (contractor access) is now available as a preview on our web site: https://my.rainmachine.com.

    For now, sharing your RainMachine is only possible with a recipient using a RainMachine or a Google email account.

    Detailed information can be found in the knowledge base: https://support.rainmachine.com/hc/en-us/articles/360039596974

    Your feedback would be greatly appreciated.

    I've followed the instructions at the link above but can't figure out what password a Shared Access invitee should use when connecting using the Android App. There is no option for connecting via Google OAuth in the app, it just asks for an email address, which we know, and a password, which we don't know. Does the invitee need to create a RainMachine account?

    @Chaim,

    It worked for me.  I went to:

    https://my.rainmachine.com

    I used my account to login and then I told it a Gmail account to send a shared access invite.  I went to that Gmail account and accepted the invite.  I could then go to the my.rainmachine.com site and selected the Google credentials sign-in button and used the Google credentials for that account.  Which in your case would be that of the contractor.  The contractor will be using a web interface and not the app which is what the link is in the email that is sent.

    The mobile apps will follow and they will allow shared account access. At this moment the android app beta should have this functionality, and you need to add the account from the Devices Screen (top left corner icon) > Remote Access > Add account
