When and how should we stop watering for the year?

At the end of the season, how do stop the Rainmachine / programs running on the machine? The machine doesn't have an off button and I was wondering if I should do anything special to turn it off or what...

Please advise on the advantages and disadvantages of completely removing power from the device. 

Also, can I use Freeze Protect as a winterizing feature?

  Jim,

  The best option is to just power it down by unplugging the 24VAC transformer, saves a little energy as well. Another option is to make the programs inactive. The advantage of leaving the unit running for the winter is that the RainMachine will record all year weather.

  The Freeze Protect will only stop watering the whole day if at any point at the night it reaches the Freeze Protect temp.

  Beside what Brandon said, you can also restrict the months that you don't want to water (from Settings->Restrictions). This has the advantage that you still see watering needs based on evapotranspiration.

  If we unplug the device, will the programs be stored and available next year or will they have to be recreated?
