Mini-8 lost connection IPadOS14.3 works IOS14.3 on iphone8+
Today I saw a notification that my Rain Machine was offline for 30min. I checked power, it was OK. I rebooted the router twice, and the device twice (unplugged power 20sec). My iPad Air2 (IPadOS 14.3) says that device is offline and the device I just about exclusively use with the Mini-8. I can access the Mini-8 with my iphone 8+ (IOS14.3), but Ipad refuses to see it. I selected "forget device" and now I get "no rain machines found". after multiple refreshes. I tried the web app and strangely it isn't working either, but maybe password has expired?? I had to reset my account password just to post this. I can see the mini-8 with the iphone 8+ as I'm typing this and how I can report some details.
Viewed from app on iphone
RM FW 4.0.1002
iOS app 4.6.113 (2) HW 2 API 4.6.1
On Ipad, Under general>ipad storage>rainmachine = Ver4.6.113
What other details do you need to help resolve this? It was mostly issue free for a long time until this. Thanks!

Hi,
- Please try to access your Mini-8 device through the web app: https://my.rainmachine.com
Use your remote access credentials email and Mini-8 admin password (this password does not expire).
- Make sure you have the latest iOS version on your iPad and it is not connected to a 5Ghz Wi-Fi hotspot. Use 2.4Ghz if possible.
If you are on the same location as the Mini-8 device and you still do not see it listed under the iPad RainMachine app DEVICES list, then, access the upper left 3 lines hamburger menu and choose Network Settings, check if the Local Discovery is ON.
- If you switch it OFF, then the RainMachine Mini-8 device will be listed as remote access - try that too and see if you get it listed, but also make sure you are signed in with your remote access account inside the mobile app - go to the same hamburger menu and choose Sign In)
- update the iOS system on your iPad to the latest available from Apple and also keep the RainMachine iOS app updated too.
Hope that helps,
Julian

Hi, I tried the web app again from my win10 PC (and in Ipad –both Firefox latest). Same result for both (I select sign in with RainMachine)- "Make sure your Rainmachine is connected to internet and your password is correct". I confirmed my password is correct. I can still see the Mini-8 in IOS app on my iPhone 8+. I started and stopped a watering cycle (and confirmed water running) from the iPhone. That confirms the RM is connected to the internet. I’m on all the latest iOS/iPadOS firmware. Devices on 2.4GHz wifi. Ipad-> Menu->devices = says I’m signed in with my account email.
Ipad->Network Settings->Local Discovery = ON Setting to OFF and refreshing, same result. RM not found.
I power cycled the Ipad just now, RM still not found in device list in app.
Interestingly, the morning of 1/28 I had a notification from the app (on the Ipad and not iPhone!) from saying watering was skipped reason was adaptive skip (or I’m forgetting the exact wording and the notification is gone). I thought maybe the RM had (re)connected to the ipad but that was/is not the case. Perhaps that is a clue to the issue. This event does show up in the 7 day watering history on Iphone app => TODAY- scheduled 180:00 watered 00:00. Today (1/31) ipad had a notification that watering cycle began for 140min. I confirmed the water was running. Still can't see RM on ipad under app, but I can see RM on iphone, and under watering history, today 140min cycle was completed. This is all suggesting the issue may be the app and IpadOS14.3. Please advise further suggestions/instruction.

Hi,
Thank you for trying the troubleshooting steps.
Would you please do the following:
- with your iPhone 8+ connected on the same local Wi-Fi network as the RainMachine Mini-8, connect to the device and access Settings - About
- note down the RainMachine Mini-8 local IP address (something like 192.168.100.100)
- open the iPad and uninstall the RainMachine iOS app and then go to Apple AppStore and reinstall it
- make sure the iPad is connected to the same local Wi-Fi network as RainMachine Mini-8
- open it again after reinstall and go to the upper left hamburger menu and choose Network Settings - Direct Access - Add Device give it a name and on the URL or IP address enter the RainMachine Mini-8 local IP address followed by 8080 port (like 192.168.100.100:8080)
- choose Save
- go back to the DEVICES screen and see if the RainMachine Mini-8 is listed
Also, you should go to iPad Settings - Wi-Fi and choose your local Wi-Fi network from the list and the Forget this network. Connect to it again by entering the Wi-Fi network password. You can also tap on Renew Lease and run this option.
Hope this helps,
Julian

I tried your suggestion today. After adding the direct access device, it was visible in the list, but the app hung up (spinning wheel, or waaaay too long to connect). No change with renewing lease on WiFi network. The app is stuck until I remove the direct access device from the hamburger menu. Then the demo is stuck until you close and restart the app. I tried the entire delete/reinstall app again, same result.
At least I can still view and access my mini-8 on my iPhone8+, just not my preferred device for managing it. The web app still doesn't work for me either (currently Firefox 85.0(64bit)/win10) which has worked before on same PC. Please advise.

Hi,
Please check that your PC and iPad use the same class of IPs and gateway as iPhone 8+
On your iPhone 8+, open Safari and access https://my.rainmachine.com
Use your remote access credentials (email + RainMachine Mini-8 password) and log in. If the web page loads and you can see and access the RainMachine Mini-8, then, we think that there is something changed on your Wi-Fi set up for iPad and PC. Do you have a firewall or do you use a mesh Wi-Fi network setup? Thanks,
Julian

I confirmed IP and gateway are same as iPhone 8+. Web app does not work on iPhone either Safari or Firefox. "Make sure your Rainmachine is connected to internet and your password is correct" is the result.
I have never changed the Mini-8 password unless that was corrupted somehow (or expired- though you said it does not), but it is not accepting it, and the email is same as my login here. Since we know the Mini-8 is connected to internet, perhaps that is the issue?

You can change the RainMachine password using iPhone 8+
Open RainMachine iOS app and access the device then go to Settings - System Settings - Password. Unfortunately, you will need to know the Old Password, but you can try to find out if the old password you know is correct or not.
If you cannot change it because the old password is lost and you do not remember it, then, you need to reset it. To do that, you need to press the RESET button from the RainMachine device for 5-6 seconds and then release. This will reset the RainMachine password and the Wi-Fi settings. You will need to connect it again to your wifi network. -
OK, thanks for the suggestion and I see your remote access request. I went and changed the password on iPhone 8+ to the same password. It was successful and I can view the mini-8 in the web app on iPhone (Firefox was default). I checked on PC web app (Firefox), and I can see the mini-8 now. Then I checked iPad, and now I can see the mini-8 in the device listing and I can access it! Seemingly issue resolved. But the "how" or "why" of the issue is unclear.

We just got the access confirmation and we did not access your device.
So, we did not change anything either. It has to be related to the password of the RainMachine device.
Please tell us what do you see listed under the RainMachine name on the DEVICES screen on iPhone 8+ and iPad.
We think that on the iPhone 8+ you will see the Local IP address of the RainMachine and on the iPad, you will see it as Remote Access. Please let us know because it looks like your iPad and PC are not on the same network as the RainMachine device.
Thank you for your patience and cooperation.

My wifi is dual band, with the 5GHz the default, sometimes it grabs 2.4GHz which is what the Mini-8 is on. I checked iPhone 8+ (2.4GHz) and it does show the local IP address. IPad shows Remote Access. When I checked the iPad was on 5G, but changing to 2.4G same result, even after closing/restarting the app. PC (device I'm typing this on) is on 2.4G. FWIW I recall in the past not having issue seeing the device on either 5G or 2.4G from the iPad. I rarely ever used the app on the iPhone (only for initial setup) so not much experience there.
