Pair electronic water usage meter with RM programs

My idea might be similar to Stevehoyt's posting.  So I gave his idea a thumbs up as well. Would love to see an electronic water meter device that could be installed immediately before the irrigation valves that would communicate with the RM programs.  Upon the initial setup of each program in each zone, the program would run fully and store the actual water used, in gallons, during that program cycle. It would do the same for every program...this data would be the baseline water usage for each program on each valve.  Then each subsequent time the program runs, it would compare current water usage to the stored base line of water usage.  If it detected higher quantity of water usage (with an adjustable +/- % for normal variation) it would send a notification to the owner.   I had a burst pipe last week and it took me a few days to notice the excess water.  with an alert like this, it would notify me immediately if a pipe had failed or a popup valve had failed.

  Tim, that is a great idea! I have 2 water meters connect to my RM and would love for the system to send  mea text or email when it detects a leak. The system already detects leaks, It just needs to be enhanced to notify the owner. Great idea!!

  I agree.  I currently have to monitor usage through an external reporting service but it can only alert me to spikes after the zones run. The RainMachine should be able to identify an issue as the zone is running in real-time.
