Pro-8 will not recover Ethernet IP address
My Pro-8 has been working fine for about a year, plugged in hardwired to my home network. I noticed a few days ago I can no longer access it from the iPhone app. Long story short, it seems to have lost its Ethernet LAN IP address. Rather than being on my subnet, it’s showing its IP address as 192.168.0.3, which is not correct. Multiple attempts to reboot have been unsuccessful, as has a complete power reset. I do not wish to do a factory reset and lose all my settings. I checked the CAT cable going to the Pro-8 by plugging it into my laptop, which successfully received an address on the correct subnet. So everything up to the end of the cable going into the Pro-8 looks good. Ideas welcome.

Hi, Tony
On you RainMachine Pro device tap on the main screen and choose Settings - System - Network - upper right Settings wheel - Settings - Change - Reset. After that, reboot the RainMachine Pro (you can short press the RESET button on the device to reboot it).
The wi-fi should be disabled and the RainMachine Pro should connect only through the Ethernet cable. After the reboot it should get the Ethernet DHCP IP address.
You can also follow the same steps again, but now just switch off the AP Setup Mode.
Let us know if that helps, Tony.
Thank you.
Julian

Hi, Tony
Ok. Now that you disabled the Wi-Fi, the Ethernet acquired the correct IP address? If the AP Mode OFF switch doesn't work, you can disable it through the mobile app: Settings - System Settings - Wi-Fi Setup Network - OFF.
Let me know if that worked for you, Tony
Thank you,

Interesting.
It should acquire the correct Ethernet IP...
Ok, now we will need to reconnect the RainMachine Pro to your Wi-Fi network, look for the RainMachine AP Setup Network on your mobile phone Wi-Fi network list and connect to it.
Then open the RainMachine mobile app and wait for the discovery. You should see it listed with the "setup" label.
Tap on it and follow the Wi-Fi setup steps.
Once connected to your Wi-Fi network it should get a correct IP. Note that IP address and then open a desktop browser on your laptop/pc and type:
https://wifiIP:8081/api/4/ (note the last backslash)
Type your RainMachine Pro password into the password input field and then click in "POST auth/login" link. A popup message should say that you are connected with admin privileges.Scroll down the page until you get to "POST network/ethernet/provision". Under it you'll see the Network options input fields. Just ignore the one that are related to Wi-Fi, like: ssid, psa, key and enter the other ones that are common for the Ethernet too: like network (dhcp)
ipaddress (enter your Ethernet IP address)
netmask (enter your network netmask)
gateway (enter gateway)
dns (enter dns if any)
Scroll back up to "POST network/ethernet/provision" and click on it.
Then scroll all the way down until you see the link "POST reboot" and click on it.After the RainMachine Pro reboots, you'll need to disable the Wi-Fi again like I told you in my first reply and then reboot the device again.
All this trouble because we have to reach the API interface and we can do it only on Wi-Fi IP since the Ethernet doesn't work for you right now.
The factory reset is not an option right now.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, Tony.

When it gets to “Waiting for your phone to connect…”, my phone connects to the network just fine, but the Pro network indicator lamp on the front panel just keeps spinning and spinning. It actually did seem to work the first time I did it - it got to my main screen, but then when I went to the web browser as directed (which didn’t work, no login page showed up) and then went back to the app, my main page was gone. Every subsequent attempt to reconnect via wireless is as I described here - blinking network lamp, spinning Circle in the app even though my phone is connected.

Hi, Tony
What type of mobile phone are you using?
Please make sure that the mobile app is up to date and the Wi-Fi password is correct. You have the possibility to preview it after you typed it.
To review the steps:
- you connected your mobile phone to the "RainMachine-XXXXXX" AP Setup network from the Wi-Fi network list
- open RainMachine mobile app
- tap on the RainMachine name with the "setup" label next to it
- the Wi-Fi network list that RainMachine Pro discovered is listed on the screen
- tap on the local Wi-Fi network you wish to connect the Pro device
- enter its password and connect
At this stage, if the password is correct, the Wi-Fi logo icon on the Pro device will start flashing and once successfully connected it will stay fully ON. No flashing.
- the mobile phone need to connect to the same Wi-Fi network in order to discover the Pro device.
If you are using mesh Wi-Fi network or dual Wi-Fi network sharing both 2,4Ghz and 5Ghz, then, the mobile phone (assuming you have a latest Wi-Fi 5Ghz compatible phone) will connect to the 5Ghz channel and the app is still waiting for it to connect to the 2,4Ghz and that's why the issue.
If that happens, Cancel the setup and if you go back to the DEVICES screen, the RainMachine Pro should be listed and accessible, but only if it was connected to Wi-Fi in the first time.
So, please check if the Wi-Fi password you enter is correct and please try the process again. You can press the RESET button on the RainMachine Pro device for 5-6 seconds and then release it to reset the Wi-Fi settings (also, please remove the Ethernet cable for now).Hope this helps, Tony
Thank you.Julian

Hi Julian. In order of responses to your questions, as follows:
iPhone 11 Pro
RM app on iPhone is up to date, WiFi password is correct
- open RainMachine mobile app
- tap on the RainMachine name with the "setup" label next to it
- the Wi-Fi network list that RainMachine Pro discovered is listed on the screen
- tap on the local Wi-Fi network you wish to connect the Pro device
- enter its password and connect
At this stage, if the password is correct, the Wi-Fi logo icon on the Pro device will start flashing and once successfully connected it will stay fully ON. No flashing. All steps taken as described. My phone does connect, but the Pro-8 never stops flashing.
I do have a dual band Ubiquiti WAP, but as I have other 2.4 GHz devices in the house, my access point is already set up so that bands are managed as separate wireless networks (not shared). My iPhone did connect to the 2.4GHz network. That is confirmed.
The reason I was using wired Ethernet is that my WAP is too far away from the Pro-8, which is in my garage. I think the problem is the signal strength is too low for it to connect. When I ran the Ethernet cable to it last year, everything connected immediately and without issue. But I will try this again with the cable disconnected.
You can press the RESET button on the RainMachine Pro device for 5-6 seconds and then release it to reset the Wi-Fi settings
Will this wipe all of my programmed settings? How long does the button need to be depressed to wipe my settings? I don’t want to do that, so I want to make sure it doesn’t happen. Thanks.

No, The 5 seconds press on the RESET button will only reset the Wi-Fi settings.
The 15 seconds press will trigger Factory Reset and we do not want that.
As described here on https://www.rainmachine.com/reset/ page.
Interesting that right now the Wi-Fi signal to the RainMachine Pro location is low. That should be the reason that the device does not connect to the Wi-Fi and the logo is flashing...
Let's try again.
Thank you!

PS - 5 seconds press will reset the RainMachine Pro password, also.
You can set it again, since after reset in blanked.
If you do not want to do that, just make sure that the AP Mode is ON.If it is, then you should discover the RainMachine-XXXXXX Setup network on your mobile phone Wi-Fi settings and try the Wi-Fi setup steps again.
Thanks,
Julian -
I went so far as to run a very long Ethernet cable so I could move my WAP literally into the garage to see if a wireless setup will work. This time the Pro did connect, as did my phone, but the app still would not come out of the “waiting for phone to connect” spinning routine. Let me repeat - both the Pro and the phone were connected to the network at this point. I waited I think it was 20 minutes. Nothing. Tried this multiple times, even attempting to use the Reset button on the Pro to reset the wireless configuration. No luck.

Hi, Tony
Ok. It is a nasty bug releated to the iOS app. In the end, if only the app is hanging, if you Cancel the setup, the RainMachine Pro is connected to your Wi-Fi? Is the Wi-Fi led fully ON or it is flashing?
If it is and you can connect through Wi-Fi, then follow the API page steps to set the Ethernet connection details. Our iOS devs investigate this and they will release a fix as soon as possible.
Thank you for your patience and understanding, Tony.
Julian,

Hi, Tony
If you go to the RainMachine Pro device and open Settings - About - Network Info you should see the local IP address under Wi-Fi and Ethernet.
Note it down and open a desktop browser and type it into the address bar (but the laptop/PC should be connected to the same network IP class).
So, if your RainMachine Pro Wi-Fi local IP is listed as: 192.168.1.100 then type it in the browser address bar like 192.168.1.100:8080/api/4/
Then follow the steps to manually enter the Ethernet details and save them. Remember to POST auth/login first, after you type the RainMachine Pro password into the password input field.
Hope this helps.Thanks,
Julian
