HD-12 Keeps disconnecting from wi-fi
Gathering FeedbackAnyone else having any network issues recently?
I have had the HD-12 for almost 2 years now and has worked flawlessly. About 1 week ago I started having connectivity problems.
From the app or the web interface it says "no rain machines detected". I go to the actual unit and the screen is black, I tap to wake the machine up and it wakes up says "no-wif" then abut 5 seconds later it connects back to wi-fi on its own and everything works again. It is almost like the machine went into a deep sleep mode until I tapped on the screen to wake it up.
Nothing has changed in my house I have had the same router for years and everything works except the rain machine.
Any ideas?

The issues with Rainmachine HD12 WiFi problems continue with vengence.
The unit disconnects frequently. It does often reconnect just by interacting with physical device.
The plants keep dying if there is no water. The LAN connection from a laptop is flaky at best and most of the time does not work. The Android access is flaky - and works eventually only when going thru the WAN.
There is no hack free way of using modern WiFi dongles.
The answers form support are oblivious to the fact that your device was designed to be obsolete in the first place. You cannot update the dongles table in your device because you were incompetent when you designed it.

I have not had any WIFI issues since I allowed the screen to not timeout and stay active .
If you are still having problems, the next best thing would be to set a fixed time per zone which turns the rainmachine into a standard watering timer. You won't get the adjusted watering times but you won't have a dead lawn either.

@Scott A: thank you . Shall try. So how long the screen will last, or how many steps I take to dim it up or down?
@RainMachine Nicholas: I appreciate you trying, but: I do not see the list, and the issue is NOT just 5GHz - it is that the only list I found is from 2018 and it contains ANCIENT dongles that are not in production since eternity for WiFi timeframe.

NP...
1. Settings > System > Display > Check "Keep screen on but dim the display"
Dim the screen enough that you can still make things out ( in case you need to access the device directly)
Yes My system was disconnecting all the time but would reconnect once I touched the screen . Making the screen not timeout solved my problem. I don't like the idea of having the screen on all the time but its been working the last couple years like this...

I recently started having the same issues. I'm using Ubiquity for networking but have a dedicated 2.4GHz network for home automation, which the RainMachine has been on the whole time.
I'm on firmware 4.0.1129, device model 3 and don't see the System: Display section that's referenced in many of these posts. Has it been removed at some firmware level?

Just following up on this. I'm still on firmware 4.0.1129 and find I need to restart the machine every few days due to loss of wifi connectivity. It still runs just fine when disconnected, just that I can't reach it remotely. A restart always fixes it for a few days.
Is the update you mentioned on May 26th something that's publicly released yet or is it on the beta quality updates channel, which I'm not current subscribed to?
Thanks!

Stable release change logs for the older units:

I was running the latest beta with the newer Archer T2U Plus usb wifi. It was working well with experimental mode on. Then something happened not sure if it was a forced software update or something else but the unit hangs while the longer range Archer is attached. If I switch back to the original dongle it won't hang. Firmware is v4.0.1132 (1.6.8).

Reviving this thread with a necropost because I've spent a LOT of time experimenting and I think I've found a solution that works. I have three HD-12 units (Gen1) on a UniFi wireless network and they've been connected for 2 days now. They even survive a "Reconnect" command from the UniFi controller and reboots of the access point.
Settings for my IoT Wireless network are as plain as possible:
- 2.4Ghz only (5G is turned off for the IoT Network)
- 20Mhz channel width
-
Multicast and Broadcast Filtering OFF
- Enable multicast enhancement (IGMPv3) ON
- All other options OFF
- PMF Disabled
- 802.11 Rate and Beacon Controls at DEFAULTS
AP Settings:
- I'd read a report in this thread about changing Band Steering on the AP to "Balanced" instead of "Prefer 5G" but I have all mine set to Prefer 5G and it's working fine.
- Airtime Fairness is OFF
YMMW, but these settings seem to be working for me... and I've been struggling with these units disconnecting daily for years. I think the big difference was turning UAPSD (Unscheduled Automatic Power Save Delivery) and "Allow BSS Transition with WNM" both to OFF.
