How can we help?

Configurable leak detection threshold

Gathering Feedback

I agree as I also get daily false leak detection alerts right after normal watering.    My flow meter measures 0.1 of a gallon for each click, so I suspect RainMachine triggers the alerts when my valves take a few seconds to close normally.   It would also be great to add a user configurable delay after a zone stops before starting the leak counter.

Yep, sure have and the RainMachine accurately records the correct number of gallons used.   That setup doesn't control the leak detection logic or the 2 clicks in 10 minute threshold mentioned above.

I assume the leak detection was tested with flow meters that are 1 gallon per click.   I'm sure it works fine in that case since you have to leak 2 full gallons of water before being alerted.

Maybe add this to the thread where they are gathering feedback for better use cases for the flow meter.  The config should be used at all times.  So this is something that they should fix for the spring 2020 release.

This needs to have a threshold in gallons. I don't care about 5 or 10 gallons; my interest is in hundreds or thousands.

Can we also get an option to deactivate leak detection but still keep the usage counting?

I have the flow sensor in the main waterline from my well. But I also use some water outlets throughout the garden which are not controlled by RM.

Every time I would use one of those, the leak detection would trigger.

Leak detection and the leak detection sensor settings page need a complete rework. I get leak notices with every watering yet when I go to the sensor settings, it always shows "Overall water leaked since the flow meter was installed" as 0. I've reset it 2-3 times since installation a couple of years ago and it still does not move.

I have a drip system with standard rated emitters. Mine are all 2gph and 5gph. I sum the total gph for all emitters on a zone to arrive at the gph I should apply for each zone which I multiply by the actual run time to arrive at total gallons for each zone. By summing the gallons for each zone, I arrive at total gallons.

I should be able to supply Rainmachine with the gph rated for each zone along with min and max percentage thresholds for alerts. Above the threshold would inform me that I have a leak. Below the threshold would inform me that I have a full/partial valve failure or head failure.

Currently, I have to do this in a spreadsheet which should totally unnecessary in an automated system.

Is there any possibility to get water usage counting working without leak detection?

I was checking the API but could not find a way to reset leak events. I would really like to see my overall water usage for the garden but not have the RM stop all watering activities when it detects a false leak.

So can you please bring a switch to activate/deactivate leak detection as a watering restriction?

Okay, I found out that you can just write 0 to the lastLeakDetected attribute under /provision.
